Standing Damaged began in 1998. Gary Sanders of Cullman, Alabama wrote and recorded nine songs and collected them on the album entitled "Nowhere". All tracks on the album were performed by Gary including drums on three songs. Jeff Hite was behind the drum kit on the remaining six. Nowhere was released on October 13th of 2000. The first track,"Thirsty" was played on a nightly song contest on Rocket 95.1 of Huntsville,Alabama and went up against major record label artists and won by far every night. This put Standing Damaged on the local map and a tour immediately followed.Gary had his hands full on stage with lead guitar, vocals and keyboards. He was joined for a tour by Jeremy Johnson (guitar), Terry Aldridge(bass) and Jason Helms(drums). After many live shows all over the South East the band began writing songs for the second Standing Damaged album. They were struck with tragedy on January 5th,2002, when Jeremy Johnson passed away after loosing a long battle with drug addiction. Though for a while the remaining three went their own ways, they come back together to finish the five songs they had started and named the album "...for No One", as a tribute to Jeremy. The song "Two Below" went to number four on the charts on Garage band.com and Standing Damaged was back on stage again for a short time. In the fall of 2006 Gary recorded the five song instrumental EP,"EXPYROMENTAL".This music was on the air locally and also featured in a commercial. After this he immediately went to work on the next Standing Damaged album."Solitude" was released in December of 2006,it was the third and most successful to date album from Standing Damaged. Gary was once again by himself in writing and in recording so this album was named "SOLITUDE". Huntsville, Alabama drummer extraordinaire Tim Humlicek of Black Label joined Gary in the studio for all songs on Solitude and played the only two live shows supporting it along with life long friend Craig Shadix (Rear View Ghost) on bass guitar. Shortly following, Gary was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and had multiple surgeries to repair nerve trouble affecting his arms and hands. It has been almost five years and he is now recovered enough to begin writing and recording more music as Standing Damaged and also a new instrumental EP under his own name.
